Organize your inventory into named, color-coded groups. Categories make it easy to filter, browse, and report on related items at a glance.

Category Badges

Each category is displayed as a color-coded badge with a dot indicator. Two size variants are available depending on context.

Color coding

Every badge includes a colored dot indicator alongside the text. This provides a secondary visual cue for accessibility, so color is never the only means of identification.

Creating Categories

Add a new category by providing a name and choosing an optional color from the preset palette.

Unique names

Category names must be unique within your business. The comparison is case-insensitive, so "Electronics" and "electronics" are treated as the same name.

Filtering by Category

Combine text search with category selection to quickly narrow down your inventory list.

Managing Categories

View all categories with their item counts and creation dates. Edit or delete categories from this list.

Editing a category updates its name or color everywhere it appears. Deleting a category removes the association from all items; the items themselves are not deleted, they simply become uncategorized.

Permissions & Limits

Category management is available to all team members, with some restrictions on destructive actions and plan-based limits.

Creating
All roles (Owner, Boss, Worker, Viewer) can create new categories.
Editing
All roles can edit category names and colors.
Deleting
Only users with the Owner or Boss role can delete categories.
Category limit
Free plan: 5 categories. Pro plan: 50 categories. Enterprise: unlimited.
Assigning to items
Any user who can edit items can assign or change their category.

Real-time sync

Category changes are broadcast via WebSocket. When a team member creates, renames, or deletes a category, everyone sees the update immediately without refreshing.
